Skills Programmes

Skills programmes involve training that :

 

  • is based on a job; and

     

  • counts as credits towards a registered qualification

            The following skills programmes are offered at College of Kuilsriver:

Business Communciation:
This skills programme covers the following outcomes:

  • Communication Skills including:  listening, hearing and different techniques used for improving listening skills. Reading and reviewing. Skimming, scanning and intensive reading and also strategies for effective reading.
  • Concise Communication: Write faxes, cover pages, memorandums, general and formal letters.

 

Mathematical Literacy:
This skills programme covers the following outcomes:

 

 

  • Convert between the decimal number system and the binary number system.
  • Work with numbers in different ways to express size and magnitude.
  • Demonstrate the effect of error in calculation. Measure, estimate and calculate physical quantities in practical situations. Explore, describe and represent, interpret and justify geometrical relationships and conjectures.
  • Pose questions, collect and organise data. Represent and interpret data using various techniques to investigate real life and work problems.
  • Use random events to explore and apply probability concepts in simple life and work related situations. Use mathematics to plan and control personal, regional and/ or national budgets and income and expenditure. Use simple and compound interest to make sense of a variety of situations. Use mathematics to debate aspects of the national economy  
 

Life Orientation:

This programmes focuses on the following:


  • Developing a core understanding of HIV/AIDS in a workplace and the effects it has on a business sub-sector, your own organization and on a specific workplace.  
  • Presenting information in report format and Presentation skills

 

Managing Diversity:

This programme develops the individual's understanding of diversity, and his or her role and responsibility with regard to equality and diversity. It helps them to understand and value self, and to gain a sense of ownership and responsibility with regard to managing diversity, so as to be able to engage with others.


Life Skills for Self-Development:

The programme is developed to impart skills and provide learners with information about: 

  • Setting goals
  • Time Management 
  • Study Skills 
  • Study Methods 

 

Team Building:


This programme is designed to increase the effectiveness of diverse teams. It enables team members to increase their understanding and awareness of team and group development issues and enhance their competence and skills for effective results. 
 


Financial Management:

This programme provides learners with an introduction to financial management.  Successful completion of this programme demonstrates your mastery of the skills and knowledge needed to advance in the financial planning field.  

This programme also assists with developing the skills to smoothly navigate across the financial terrain.  


Project Management:

This practical introductory programme provides you with all the essential skills, tools and techniques that you will need to support you in your project management role.  It addresses the need for and the principles and objectives of project management.   

This programme concentrates on the practical techniques that you can apply directly back to the workplace.  


Leadership Management:

Our distinctive leadership management programme focuses on increasing skills that help learners become more confident leaders and managers.

Skills focused on in this programme include:

  • problem-solving

Office Administration:

The overall purpose of this programme is to equip learners with the skills to assist in office related activities in the office administration field such as orientation regarding secretarial and administration posts, office automation & computers, reprography processes, business ethics and finesse. 


Entrepreneurship:          

Entrepreneurship is the process of identifying, developing, and bringing a vision to life. The vision may be an innovative idea, an opportunity, or simply a better way to do something. The end result of this process is the creation of a new venture, formed under conditions of risk and considerable uncertainty.  
 

This programme provides a focused study and analysis of the distinctive factors that influence entrepreneurial activity in various culture and national environments.

                              


Career Development Expo

College of Kuilsriver hosts Career Development Exhibitions that assist students to discover information about academic majors and related career choices.

College of Kuilsriver will promote academic exploration and acquaint students with possible programmes.The expo offers valuable information and provides students with the opportunity to connect with College of Kuilsriver.

Students, faculty, staff and administrators will interact during many rewarding and enjoyable activities during orientation.

The Career Development Exhibitions are hosted at the beginning of each semester.

WORKSHOPS

College of Kuilsriver hosts a number of skills development workshops monthly.

Bookings are essential to secure a place in the workshop.

Attendance certificates are issued on completion of the workshop.


The following workshops are offered:
 

  • CV Compilation & Personal Development  

Need help with your CV or Resume? This workshop will assist you in developing and compiling your CV. 
 

Personal development workshops provide opportunities for individuals to learn about topics related to personal growth. These topics include: goal setting, time management and study skills   

  • Communication Skills for Success  

This workshop examines common barriers to effective communication and ways to overcome them. You'll learn how to increase self-awareness of your thoughts and feelings, and practice effective communication skills to identify the actions you could take to help improve your communication with others. 

  • Computer literacy: Keyboard Training & Speed Development

This workshop will develop your knowledge and practical skills in accurate typing speed. It offers lots of practical exercises and the opportunity to improve your touch typing. 

  • Managing Diversity:  

This workshop will build the learner's understanding of diversity, and his or her role and responsibility with regard to equality and diversity. Diversity is addressed in the following areas: culture, religion, income, school and play, race discrimination. 

 

  • Leadership Management:  

The workshop on leadership management focuses on increasing skill sets that help learners become stronger, more confident leaders and managers.
